Abortion is a Jesus Issue

Fighting against abortion is a “gospel issue,” because – simply put – Jesus Christ is the author of all life (John 1.4; 5.26) Therefore, every attack upon life – be it in the womb or outside the womb – is an attack upon God the Father’s agent of creation, Jesus Christ (John 1.3; Col. 1.16).

If we could summarize the gospel in one word, it would be Jesus. Now, I acknowledge "Jesus" may mean many things to many different people, but to define Him biblically – which is the only way to define Him – leads to the applicational logic of my first paragraph on this topic. Abortion is not merely a political issue. It is not merely a cultural issue. It’s not merely a religious issue. All of these things factor in to this watershed subject of our time. But, more than anything else, abortion is a Jesus issue. And if we’re defining Jesus according to a grammatical-historical-canonical interpretive method (the only valid method in which to interpret Scripture), then it’s clear to see that (any) abortion is a declaration of war on Jesus Christ.

There are moments in a culture’s debate over an issue when something occurs which crystalizes things. I believe such a moment has come with the current trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. You haven’t heard of him? Well, our nation’s mainstream media ought to blush with shame for their negligence at his present lack of infamy. That said, I am thankful for those in certain pockets of the media that are decrying such inattention.

If you care about our nation, our children, our communities, and – most importantly – the gospel of Jesus Christ, please sit down and watch this movie. I know it will be nauseatingly hard. But you need to know. You need to weep. We need to mourn as a Church. And then, we must wipe our tears away, stand to our feet, and with the courage the Lion of the tribe of Judah provides, embrace and promote and defend and create life as the people of God.
